Germany 19-05-2023

On Friday I had the luminous idea to get the first Pike from the waters of syndicate nr. 2.
I was pretty sure I would get one from the mill pool but for some reason the only hit I got was from a perch who missed the fly.

In stark contrast to last week water levels had dropped considerably and it was now
obvious to see that the mill pool was pretty shallow.
I spotted some small dace surface feeding and noticed a carp moving about.
Small BWO’s where about plus some of the larger Danica mayflies.

The dry fly only yielded takes from tiny fish so I soon switched back to fishing nymph
and squirmy and eventually caught some dace and small perch.
I explored the waters downstream from the mill pool hoping to see a feeding trout
but the water was pretty dead.

I had spotted a quite large rudd in the surface of the mill pool and with the sun
getting low I wanted to see if I could catch that fish.
Unfortunately the strong wind pretty much killed the surface fishing as it rippled the
surface of the mill pool.
